Working From Home
In my 17 years of career as of 2020 February I have worked from home for many years however I never felt for even a single second that I am not connected to my team or I am not engaged with the work I am doing. I have honestly more memories of me working in a corporate culture than staring my computer screen because you remember time you spent with people than alone in your room. There are pros and cons of WFH but if you are like me who like to get things done then I am sure you will appreciate quietness and solitude. I first did WFH firstly in 2004 just one year after I started my career, when honestly WFH was unheard of. When I started working for Alcatel-Lucent after few year of joining I worked with a team in Europe where I was in India so WFH was the obvious option because me going…

Jira Ultimate Guide
So you have decided to learn Jira, great good choice. I can help. I was thinking of creating this page or blog or whatever you want to call it where I will list all the necessary resources to help your become a Jira expert. How to use this page? I will try to categorise my resources with tags and this page will have things in order starting from beginner level to advanced. So you may want to bookmark this page and come back here from time to time. Although my site is built on Drupal with new things updated automatically on the home page and there are separate sections for everything but this page can be your starting point. Most of the resource as I mentioned before will be on this site with embedded videos so it will be easier to keep track of things. Ready, good. Let us start. There are…

I have been using ScriptRunner for Jira for many years but I never bothered to learn it properly. I don't even know groovy well, but I guess for doing Jira Administration you just need to know about programming and don't need to be a full fledged developer. So I started learning it properly and I thought of also sharing whatever I was learning and it might help others who are trying to learn ScriptRunner for Jira for doing wonderful things with their Jira instance. Here is the link to my ScriptRunner for Jira playlist. I recommend starting from the beginning. If you are a beginner and let me know if it was useful. Enjoy and have fun.

I made my first youtube video for educational purpose in 2011, that was 8 years ago. I had a windows machine back then and I made quite lot of videos, mostly on Drupal. Those videos were really bad (when I look at them now), when I say bad I mean as compared to my current videos which are not great either. My audio was bad, I was not talking properly, the delivery was not great either although the content was useful. I stopped making videos for a long while because youtube was not a big thing yet in India at least 8 years ago. It was a good platform but nothing like right now. I had other priorities in life so I didn't bother much. Around 2 years ago I though I should restart creating videos. My objective was simple - I wanted to learn new things and I know from my experience that when…

Blackberry passport
It is April 2018 and some people just can't believe how can I still use Blackberry 2018. They make fun of this bulky square phone. They give excuses like the apps don't work in your phone and bla bla bla. To be honest I do have some bias towards Blackberry OS 10 and Blackberry devices in general however I don't really hate Android and iPhone as well, I do have both have both of them. People have different needs and wide range of expectations from their phone and for majority of people I know it is more of a cool factor. They need the latest fancy shiny phone and there is nothing wrong in it. Although I can afford to buy the latest iPhone X Y or Z but my needs are very clear from a phone and I always spend my money with Return of Investment in mind. I use phone for primarily for these…

More than 10 years ago when I used to work on MS Project Server which was quite expensive back then I was searching for an open source tool for managing different projects that I was working on back then, by 2008 I was already doing freelancing consultation on Red Hat, VBA trainings and just started providing services around Drupal. When I started doing web development I quickly realized the need of a proper project management solution. Excel sheets worked quite well for me and when more people started working as a team you can not use spreadsheets for a long time. In late 2007 I learned MS Project Server and I deployed it in Alcatel-Lucent as part of my day job. I was working there at that time as a Project Coordinator and built one Excel based tool for Project Management that worked…

Ravi Sagar Location
This Easter break was very fruitful for me. In fact I was quite satisfied with the work that I did in the last few days. In the past few weeks I am following IndieWeb principles and I implemented POSSE as well. I was quite satisfied with the new approach on my blog where I started posting small updates using notes. However I also wanted to implement checkins on the site and I shared the approach I took with my Drupal website and the modules I used to achieve it. However I still wanted this ability to display my current location on my site. I was actually inspired by Aaron Parecki. I wanted to do the same thing and I first thought of using his code which he open sourced but I wanted to do it myself and also I don't have an iPhone plus my site runs on Drupal and I was more comfortable…

Hugo
Just before the start of the weekend I planned to work on Known CMS and Circle CI but things turned out slightly differently or I should say a lot. I ended up setting up a Hugo website and used Netlify to continuously deploy it on https://hugo.ravi.pro which is thew new subdomain that I setup. What is Hugo? It is framework for building website using text files. Similar to Jekyll but the interesting thing is that it is written in Go and that is what intrigued me to explore it further. I made a posted the video on my youtube channel where I shared about Go language and my intention to learn it. In the past few weeks I was quite busy with other work and I couldn't think of a project where I can use Go and Hugo was the perfect project to learn Go. Funny thing is that setting up a site in…

 Atlassian Certified Jira Administrator
Last year I cleared for Jira Admin and Agile Development with Jira Software certification in one attempt. To be honest I was scared whether I will be able to clear the exam or not. When I did the sample tests I failed in initial attempt. Today I actually want to share some more tips that I hope will help people are are preparing for the exam. I also wrote a blogabout tips on clearing and passing the Jira Admin exam and it was well received. Today I will share more tips on both the exams. Atlassian Certified Jira Administrator I am assuming you are already experienced Jira Administrator so you should already have good understanding of the configurations and the concept of schemes. The Jira admin exam won't only test your knowledge of these concepts but also how effectively you apply your…

Ravi Sagar Youtube
I am very pleased to announce today that I have decided to launch my very own youtube channel. I have been writing content on this blog for a long time which is mostly a dumping place for my own personal thoughts, my intention is also to share my knowledge but more or less this blog is my own personal space. I am planning not to post directly on social networking sites directly and I am trying to implement POSSE on my blog where I will post small or big post here and syndicate them elsewhere. So why I am starting this channel? Very long time ago (7 years ago) I did make some videos on Drupal but I was not prepared back then, although I never really wanted to become a youtuber and that is not what I still want. I also don't intend to earn money from this blog and become a millionaire. 1.…
