Atlassian Updates - UI modifications, Single Email, Admin API and Company managed fields

I know you are excited about these weekly updates from the @Atlassian ecosystem.

UI modifications Issue View EAP

Creating dynamic forms on Jira Cloud using Forge was a desirable feature and with the launch of UI modifications many apps have started implementing it, for instance Behaviours on Jira Cloud is one such example which is basically a Forge app, that works along with ScriptRunner for Jira.

The UI modification works on Global Issue Create modal and I believe with this Early Access Programme you can do it on the Issue View as well. This is exciting and opens up lot of possibilities. You can request access to this on your dev instance here.

Removing Single Email Address field

In Jira's notification schemes you can send an emails based on various emails. These can be sent to assignee, reporter, lead, roles, groups, watchers, user and group custom field but it is also possible to send an email to single email address. This feature will be removed. You can send an email using Automation rules or may be apps. Lear more here.

Admin API for user management and Company managed fields in Team managed JSM projects

I keen an eye on the Cloud Roadmap because as part of my job I need to be aware of upcoming features. Two things I want to talk about. First in Jira and other Atlassian products managing users using REST API has always been challenging. Yes you can do few basic things but it is good to see that Atlassian is planning to improve it. This improvement for Admin APIs for user management will come out in Q4 2023 so in few months.

Second thing I want to talk about is reusing Company managed fields in Team managed project of type JSM. It would be interesting to see how this feature would work in reality. I guess if as a project administrator of Team managed project if you need to create a field then ideally first check the available field. This is good I guess. I will wait and watch. This is scheduled to release in Q3 2023, so I guess anytime soon.

Video of the week

Atlassian consultation is a really good career option for those people who are already doing Jira Admin work or some kind of project management. Being an Atlassian consultant means that you are enabling others to get the most out of Atlassian tools. However it is not easy and it takes time, in fact several years of experience. It is not just about tools but also processes, people, politics and budget.

As part of my job I need to do lot of talking to people which I have mentioned many times that I am not very good at but with experience I have been able to upskill myself organically. Although I may not enjoy talking to people a lot but I still need to understand what they are trying to achieve. I need to learn about their challenges and expectations from the tool.

One thing which I noticed working with other consultants is that you need to be confident about your skills and that means telling people how to do their job (nicely) and also not being afraid of asking questions. New consultants often feel that they might ask a stupid question and usually these consultants are techies so they don't always know about company specific processes. I made a video on this topic where I shared my experience and I focused on not being afraid to ask questions.

That is it for this week. I hope you enjoyed and learned.
