Atlassian Updates - Jira Product Discovery users, Parent field and ending support for old JCMA, CCMA

Let us go through the latest from the @atlassian ecosystem. There were quite a lot of updates last week related to Jira Product Discovery, new Parent field, Data Center Digest and more.

Jira Product Discovery users - Creators, Contributors and Stakeholders

I am still not 100% convinced with the idea of Jira Product Discovery but it seems like Atlassian is serious about it and is constantly sharing updates related to it. There are various types of users in it and if you want to learn more about those users and what they can do then do read this post.

Replacing Epic link and Parent link fields with a new Parent field

Around last year Atlassian mentioned that Epic link and Parent link fields will be replaced by Parent field. I am not sure if it ever happened in my Jira instances but now it seems like this update will happen soon. Fortunately we don't have to do anything about it. The field replacement will happen automatically and nothing should break. Old JQL based on these fields will still work but for creating new JQL use something like "parent is empty". You can read more about it here.

Ending support for old version of JCMA and CCMA

If you are using JCMA 1.7.1 or CCMA 3.3.6 or lower for your cloud migration then you should upgrade soon.

Data Center Digest Q2 2023

Finally good to see some updates from Atlassian related to on prem versions. Although not significant update but there are minor improvements and small features released and more will come soon. Details here.

Video of the week

Issue links in Jira are great but they don't do anything on their own. For example one issue can be blocked by another issue but that is it. You can't do more than that. You can create a plan based on dependencies but what if the issue links are deleted? I made a video showing how you can track deletion of those issue links.
