Microsoft Project Server

UPDATE 2020: I never really finished this project, well at least I tried. It is unlikely that I will ever write a book on this topic :) but you never know.

Overview

I have been using Microsoft Project for many years now. I have worked in 3 companies where managing Projects was part of my job, initially I used to manage the Projects using spreadsheet tools like Excel. I used to have excel sheets for the Project that had columns like tasks, start dates, end dates, Actual dates, Resources, remarks and some other fields too. It worked nicely until I started managing bigger projects with many more resources and too frequent change in Project Plan. It is practically very difficult to save all the Project History when there are too many changes in the Project.

Project never goes as it was planned, there will always be some changes in the plan when you actually start working on it. Working with Excel sheets can leave you frustrated and you may not be able to have better control over your project because you don't have the visibility of project data like resource over-allocations and progress.

One fine day my boss in my previous company introduced me to Microsoft Project 2003. I started using it and slowly with time I realized that it is very easy to use and works much better than excel sheets. Microsoft Project 2003 is the tool that is specifically designed for tracking Projects and resources.

This book will be divided into various chapters, initially I will focus on the basics of this Tool and later move on to the advances features.
