Bridging the Gap Between Physical Work and Jira: Introducing Sparxsys QR Code for Jira

Over the last two decades at Sparxsys, we’ve worked with hundreds of organizations to help them optimize their Atlassian ecosystems. We’ve built custom workflows, untangled massive Jira setups, and trained teams to stay organized. But during all this time, one recurring frustration kept coming up from teams on the ground:

"How do I quickly open this specific Jira issue, board, or backlog on my phone without spending two minutes searching for it?"

If you are standing in front of a team wallboard during a daily standup, managing physical assets in a warehouse, or trying to quickly check a project's status on the move, typing out long Jira URLs or navigating complex filters on a mobile browser is a clunky experience.

QR Code for Jira

We built Sparxsys QR Code for Jira to solve this exact problem. It is designed to act as an instant, physical-to-digital bridge for your Jira Cloud instance.

What is Sparxsys QR Code for Jira?

Put simply, the app generates instant, scannable QR codes for virtually any workspace view inside Jira Cloud. Anyone with a smartphone camera can scan the code and be taken straight to the exact page or item they need—no manual searching required.

Here is how you can use it to speed up your team's everyday work:

  • Sprint Boards & Wallboards: Generate a QR code for your Scrum or Kanban boards. It's the perfect addition to physical wallboards or hybrid office spaces, giving team members a 1-second shortcut to the current sprint view during standups.
  • Instant Backlog Access: Need to review a priority list with a stakeholder on the fly? Scan directly to a board's backlog and planning view.
  • Project Hubs: Paste project-specific QR codes on physical equipment, shared lab spaces, or project overview documents so team members can access the digital Jira project space instantly.
  • Individual Issue Tracking: Print or display QR codes on physical inventory, hardware prototypes, or QA testing units. Scanning the code pulls up the active Jira ticket details immediately.

Simple, Secure, and Fully Integrated

Because we built this app with our 20+ years of Atlassian consultancy experience, we made sure it seamlessly integrates into your existing Jira Cloud interface without changing how your team naturally operates. It's lightweight, intuitive, and built to remove friction from daily tracking.

Get Started Today

We are incredibly excited to bring this solution to the Atlassian Marketplace. The app is fully commercial and paid via Atlassian, making licensing seamless for your procurement team.

Stop fighting with mobile search filters and start scanning. Check out our official Documentation to see how easy it is to set up, or dive straight in and try it out today.

Running an independent Atlassian Consultancy company is challenging

Atlassian ecosystem has changed a lot in the last two decades. When I started using Jira there was no concept of an Atlassian Marketplace or Partners. I remember one day I received an email from Atlassian that they would like Sparxsys to become their partner and they asked to go through the onboarding process and complete some exercises. When I learned more about the program back then I realised become a partner requires you to have a team of people who can do things like Sales, licensing, client management etc. These days it is just impossible to become Atlassian partner as a small company.

So can't you run a small independent consulting Atlassian consulting business?

I think you can but it is tough to compete with the big companies/partners. I believe there is something for every company - big or small. There is always someone somewhere looking for consultants or admins. You just need to ensure that you are reachable and you are constantly shouting about what you do.

As a small company you are always looking for ways to stay in the business but at the same time as a founder you want to do what you feel like is the right thing to do. That was the whole point. I could have stayed in job working for someone else but I wanted to do something different for myself.

Anyways back to the point. It is 2026 and Sparxsys is doing good. I am happy that we have 15 employees, have office in the UK, India and UAE as well. However it is lot of hard works that went into building a company and much more work that we need to do on a daily basis to stay in the business. Majority of our revenue comes from providing services, it is fine but there is a risk.

Some challenges and risk for a small Jira consultancy company

  1. You need a pipeline of work. That means constant effort on sales and marketing.
  2. You need good resources.
  3. Growth is not fast.
  4. Retaining clients is tough.
  5. If one or two big client goes away then you are in trouble.
  6. As a founder you have to do all the accounting, paper work, compliances yourself. Even after hiring dedicated accountants.
  7. Getting into product development is not easy.

After a while the service that you provide to your client becomes your day job and often you would feel like no different from working for someone else in a full time job :)

In this blog post I am just trying share my experience.

Has Jira really changed in the last 20 years?

If you did something on #Jira in 2006 for your company where you created a project, created custom schemes, custom fields, and some workflows. Probably did a migration from some legacy tool to Jira.

Then you moved to a totally different role, never looked back at Jira.

In 2026 if you come back to Jira Cloud - how different would you find it? Yes, there are plenty of new features but what essentially you did 20 years is pretty much 90% of what people do with Jira now as well.

Automatically Start and Stop sprints in Jira

We launched a new app called "SprintRunner for Jira". The motivation behind this app was to help Project Managers and SCRUM Masters focus on delivery and let our app take care of automatically start and stop specific sprints based on a schedule.

Usually managers forgot to stop the sprint on time and that is not a good thing. If you want to follow Agile practices then to get into this habit of iterating you need to ensure that team members are committed to delivering the stories and tasks on time. Stopping the sprint automatically may seem harsh but it will keep a check on everyone.

You can read the documentation of this app here.

If you need a demo of this app please reach out to me directly.
